Past and present
The original Leifeng Pagoda dated to the Wuyue period. It collapsed in 1924; the pagoda seen today is a reconstruction opened in 2002. The site presents the earlier structure’s remains alongside the present landmark.

Leifeng is associated with the Legend of the White Snake. Treat this as a cultural story, distinct from the documented history of the building.
The pagoda’s setting on the southern side of West Lake makes it a natural companion to a lakeside walk.
