Three Temples of Tianzhu

In this former Buddhist resort there are three temples with a variety of images of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy. The oldest of the temples, built in 330 by the Indian monk Hui Li, is today the only nunnery in Hangzhou. In 597 an Indian master Bao Zhang builds the Fajing Temple a little bit upwards from the nunnery. The third and the largest temple here is built during the Kingdom of Wuyue in the Five Dynasties and was rebuilt in late 20’ of the previous century. A great number of female pilgrims are attracted to this place, due mainly to the many fascinating stories and legends about the goddess.
